Five common mistakes while doing SEO

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 09:18 AM PDT

Mistakes when doing SEO can vary from making the biggest blunders to overlooking the most subtle nuances. In general, avoiding them altogether is less stressful than having to do corrective measures. The following are some SEO mistakes that need to be avoided at all costs.

Spamming back links

An idea floating around is that websites with lots of back links always do well in search engine rankings. Although this might hold true in some respects, oftentimes having too many links pointing to a page is undesirable. The reason is quality. A website containing lots of non-quality back links are often mistaken for spammers. A better idea, therefore, is to have quality back links rather than just getting a large number of back links regardless of quality.

Posting links everywhere is not an effective tactic in SEO. In addition to running the risk of getting stiff penalties with some websites or even getting banned, most webpage owners remove spam and irrelevant links instantly, wasting the so-called spammer's time which could have been spent doing more productive SEO efforts.

Prioritize getting quality back links for your website. Such links are those from respectable websites that have related content to your own, and even if this practice is quite time-consuming, quality links will contribute much in the promotion of your site.

Concealed text

Concealed text content might seem passé, but there are still a lot of people who use this cheap SEO tactic. It usually entails putting a bunch of invisible keywords at the lower portion of the webpage. The trick is to change the font color to blend with the page's background. Other techniques are practiced as well, with the objective to put in as much hidden keywords and phrases on the page as possible.

Like spamming, this could lead to a website being banned from the search engines, since such programs have people who specifically check webpage content for this sort of thing.

Neglecting images

For those who implement SEO, images are an important medium to promote their websites and increase search engine page rankings.

An effective way to utilize images is to set the image's filename to something that is related to the webpage being promoted. Always use informative filenames that will help describe the content and point toward your website, and avoid vagueness in naming images. Optimize the images by including alternative tags in the picture; this will add more keywords for the search engine to use. However, this should be done subtly and sparingly.

Neglecting URLs

Similarly, URLs should also be given thought.  For good SEO results always make sure to have specific, content-relevant URL for your website. Additionally one can organize a website into different categories. Use keywords and keyword phrases appearing in a keyword search.

Being Impatient

SEO is not about getting results instantly. Sometimes good search engine ranking comes about immediately after some optimization, but this is the exception rather than the norm. Good things come to those who wait, and this adage applies very much to search engine optimization. It takes a good deal of time and effort to get the desired results.

HTC Desire Extensive Review

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 07:27 AM PDT

HTC has produced some of the finest pieces of cell phones over the last decade and has gained immense popularity.

With 2010 being the peak for the Android biz, HTC Desire happens to be the phone people are eying on. Now, this can well be controversial. I do not mean that people aren’t getting iPhones or Blackberry’s but this is something new and it re-defines the notions of style and comfort altogether. HTC Desire has in-fact turned out to be a very good competitor to Steve Job’s iPhone. Desire not only happens to be less expensive than iPhone but also provides you with all the same set of features that one can find in an iPhone. HTC has carefully chosen flaw-less features and has power-packed them in to the Desire. The smart phone provides it’s user with a vivid range of apps, magnificent web browsing capabilities and one of the best if not ‘the best’ displays ever. Apart from all this you can check on the camera which in-fact is a good one, a music player that is sure to add joy while you are on the run and while the notion of traveling and adventure comes in, HTC Desire also flaunts a GPS. All this is backed up by lightning-fast 1 GHz processor and 576 Mb of RAM.

If you speak of HTC Hero then let me tell you it was good but could have been better, and here it is the Desire much alike the Hero but way to ahead of its predecessor.  Now, if you would love some tech talk then I could perhaps explain to you further the details of the desire experience.

The phone comes along with a capacitive display to deliver you with dream touch sensation. This device will also flaunt pinch-to-zoom capability so that you can seamlessly zoom through pictures. This gadget would depict the amalgamation of Android 2.2 a.k.a. Froyo with the specially-designed HTC Sense interface. The users now can enjoy super-fast mobile experience with Desire’s 1GHz Qualcomm SnapDragon CPU, a voluptous 576MB of RAM and support to expand the external memory all the way up to 32GB.

Detailed Specification:

  • Camera : 5 MP, 2592 x 1944 pixels, autofocus, LED flash
  • MP3 : MP3/AAC+/WAV/WMA9 player, MP4/H.263/H.264/WMV9/DivX player
  • Memory : Internal-576 MB RAM; 512 MB ROM, Card slot-microSD (TransFlash) up to 32GB
  • Display : AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
  • Ringtones : Vibration, MP3, WAV ringtones
  • Bluetooth : v2.1 with A2DP
  • GPRS : Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots), 32 – 48 kbps
  • 3G : HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps; HSUPA, 2 Mbps
  • Addons : EDGE, WLAN, USB, Android OS, v2.1 (Eclair), CPU-Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1 GHz processor
  • Weight : 135 g
  • Talktime : Up to 6 h 40 min (2G) / Up to 6 h 30 min (3G)
  • Standby : Up to 340 h (2G) / Up to 360 h (3G)

What do you think? Is this exactly what you were dreaming of? Well, at least in my case, it indeed is a clear big – YES. If jail-breaked, the phone costs around $800 (Rs. 36,000).
