Lack of public interest- Google kills Wave

Posted: 04 Aug 2010 06:29 PM PDT

Through a blog post Google has announced the closure of  their online collaboration tool- Wave. The service will be available till end of this year but the features and technology of wave will be transferred to other Google products.

Google says  "Wave has not seen the user adoption we would have liked. We don't plan to continue developing Wave as a standalone product, but we will maintain the site at least through the end of the year and extend the technology for use in other Google projects."

Google Wave was opened to public in September 2009 as a limited preview through invitation and after eight months of beta testing, opened to public in May 2010. I got an invitation in the earlier stage but couldn't use it properly because of the said public acceptance.

The main drawback of Wave is its confusing application side. Average internet users are still unaware how to use it.  Google didn't give much publicity and awareness campaigns on the usage part.  Wave could have been integrated to other Google products to make it more popular. It is more technical for a layman. A wave user said "Wave is technologically over loaded".

The awesome features like character-by-character live typing, ability to drag-and-drop files from the desktop, play back etc could not create waves in the ocean of web. Wave was mainly accepted by the web developers and techies as a real time interactive platform for online collaborations.

Posted: 04 Aug 2010 04:00 PM PDT

We have already seen many great products from Adobe over the years. As you know Adobe has started quite modestly twenty years ago but soon it has become the leading software developer in the world. As you know, Adobe is responsible for the development of PDF file format that is used for sharing of digital documents. Besides that, Adobe is the maker of popular design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign but recently Adobe has focused on Internet application development. With the purchase of Macromedia Adobe has launched several new products such as Flash and Dreamweaver and that way Adobe has focused more on internet development. According to the latest news, Adobe plans to make another acquisition.

Latest news shows that Adobe plans to acquire Day Software Holding for $240 million. If you don't know Day Software Holding is a Swiss company that is focused on enterprise-level software solutions, Web-based content management and on and social collaboration. According to the Adobe, this acquisition will provide organizations with certain advantages and it will enable them to quickly and with ease create, share and monetize continent while adjusting the web experience for their customers. So far, the $240 million deal hasn't been concluded yet but we're hoping to see the purchase of Day Software Holding until the end of 2010. As we mentioned earlier Adobe is famous because of its creative design applications such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Flash and Dreamweaver and this addition will be great for both Adobe and Day Software Holding and their customers. With the addition of Day Software Holding Adobe will finally be able to provide its users with its own enterprise-level content management solutions and it won't have to rely on third-party solutions anymore. In our opinion, this is a great move by Adobe from which enterprise users will benefit the most and we're looking forward to the conclusion of the deal soon enough.

Intel Is Working On A Smart Remote?

Posted: 03 Aug 2010 11:10 PM PDT

Technology has advanced rapidly and we're are seeing all sorts of smart devices on the market. As technology advances, devices are getting smarter and more adjustable to the users. Question is how will users react to the smart devices and will those devices find their purpose? We have already seen all sorts of smart appliances on the market but now we're about to see something bit different. Interesting thing is that this device comes from well-known processor manufacturer Intel and it's quite a surprise to see Intel's interest for smart devices.

As we all know, Intel is famous because of its processor and he is leading processor manufacturer in the world so it's really strange to hear that leading processor manufacturer is working on a remote controller. At first, it was a shock, but then Intel isn't working on a standard remote controller for your TV. This smart remote controller will create your user profile and adjust itself to your profile. As for the remote and user profiles, you'll be surprised to hear that profiles are created by the way you hold your remote. We don't know how efficient this will be, but this remote has motion sensors that are analyzing the way you hold your remote on every 100 nanoseconds. Therefore, according to the way you hold your remote, your profile will be activated. This means that each person that touches and uses the remote will have its profile. This can be useful because that way you can have parental control on your remote and block certain channels and shows when your child is using the remote. Remote is designed to analyze your habits so this might mean that the remote can be programmed to switch to our favorite show or a channel at certain time according to our habits.

Although Intel is working hard on this remote we don't know when wills it become reality but we're hoping that we might see this remote soon enough.
